The parts of a rotating light

The parts of a rotating light:
top: the fully assembled light, showing the light, its power cord, and a mirror to be used when the light is mounted in the windshield or rear window.
middle: the light with the mirror removed and set aside.
bottom: the light with the green dome removed, revealing the electric motor in the front, the incandescent lamp in the center, and the rotating reflector toward the back.  The incandescent lamp remains fixed in place while the reflector revolves around it, creating a rotating beam of light.

How big is the White House?

During the Truman administration, the White House's original wooden skeleton was replaced by a steel one. This required gutting the house, leaving only the exterior walls. This photo was taken during that time. Note the construction equipment: it's inside the White House.

That's a big house.

Timing is everything

Christian spent the past half hour asleep in the doorway, in as large a patch of sunlight as he could find on this overcast afternoon. A moment after the shutter clicked, however, he woke up, stood, and stretched. I'm surprised the shut isn't blurred by his motion, but I must have caught him just before he moved.
